From the first pages

In Hikmet Dede's repair shop, everything had a sound: the radios crackled, the teapot bubbled and the big clock on the wall went tick-tock. Tıkır loved the clock's sound best of all. One morning, the clock went quiet.
"Dede, the clock's stopped!" called Ela. But Hikmet Dede had gone to the market that day. Tıkır's lamp eyes lit up. "Then we'll look at it ourselves."

Let’s talk as a family: “How did Ela and Tıkır find out why the clock had stopped? Which guesses were wrong? 2) What do you do when something at home doesn't work?”

Explore together

When a stormy evening brings a power cut, children discover with Tıkır and his family what you can do without screens: making shadow play from torchlight, cutting cardboard puppets and putting on a family show.

In the colouring pages, children colour the screen being set up and the "shadow robot" on the sheet, and choose a shape for their own shadow puppet. In seek-and-find, they search the rainy-evening dinner table and the living room when the lights come back.

Talk together

1) What did Tıkır notice when the power went off? What did Hikmet Dede remember? 2) What does your family like doing most when there are no screens? Together: In the evening, dim the lights and shine a torch on a wall or a stretched sheet. Make bird, dog or rabbit shadows with your hands, cut out a few cardboard puppets and act out a short story. Always use a torch, never a candle.
