Explore together
Children meet Tıkır, who takes every word literally, notice that some expressions mean something different from their words, learn to spot idioms in everyday talk and play with words to invent a tongue twister of their own.
In the colouring pages, children colour Tıkır's idiom notebook and the moment he recites his tongue twister, and can draw the literal meaning of an idiom themselves. In seek-and-find, they search the shop at tea time and at night.
Talk together
1) What did Tıkır think "on pins and needles" meant? What does it really mean? 2) Do you know an idiom? What would happen if we took it literally?
Together: Pick an idiom as a family ("grinning from ear to ear", "all fingers and thumbs") and let your child draw it literally. Then say a tongue twister together and see who can say it fastest and slowest.
