Pofi's favorite toy was a small wooden train. When cousin Ada arrived, Ada sat beside it and said, ‘I want to drive!’ Pofi reached out at the same moment. Two little hands rested on one train. Suddenly the room became very quiet.

‘It is my train,’ Pofi said. ‘I do not want to let go yet.’ Ada looked disappointed. Mum listened to both of them. ‘You both want to play. Let us talk about how to use Pofi's special toy.’ Nobody pulled on the train.

Ada took some blocks from the box. ‘Could I build a station?’ Ada asked. Pofi looked up. ‘I can build the track.’ The train waited nearby. As they made a station, bridge and bends, they discovered how useful each other's ideas could be.

When the track was ready, Pofi offered to drive the first lap, then let Ada have a turn. ‘When the train comes back to the station?’ Ada asked. They agreed. The waiting player would make passenger sounds. Waiting became part of the game.

Pofi drove slowly on the first lap. Back at the station, Pofi wanted another turn, then remembered their agreement. Pofi placed the train in front of Ada. ‘Now I will ask for tickets!’ The train was the same, but their shared world had grown.

When Ada left, they put the train away. Pofi had kept a treasured toy and found a new way to play. Not every special belonging had to be shared; they could talk and choose. What sound, idea or small job could you add while waiting?
